Take A Walk

With Genesta from Kintails

Genesta Gunn, founder of
Kintails, takes us on a pilgrimage to the North Cornwall coast, with Frank and George the dogs leading the way.

Ever since 2013 we have been visiting the North Cornwall coast, staying in a small village called Trevone (which is situated between Padstow and Harlyn Bay), for Christmas, Easter and often for a week at the end of September. It’s a truly beautiful spot which holds a very special place in our hearts

Our favourite walk is from Trevone Bay up to Trevose head and down to Constantine Bay, before looping back via Harlyn bay.

We have done this walk in different forms so many times I have lost count, but it changes from season to season and always offers something new.

Late spring we were able to walk from Newtrain Bay along to Harlyn paddling through rock pools with the dogs as the tide was low and the weather was unseasonably warm. During the Autumn months we have seal watched on the cliffs of Trevose Head and swam in the Trevone tidal pool. During the winter months we rest at Booby’s Bay to watch the surfers and even once gave surfing at Christmas a try.

The route is very easy to follow from Trevone bay as you simply follow the SW Coastal Path which can be picked up from the beach. From there you follow the path along the cliff tops to beautiful sandy beach of Harlyn Beach. At the far end of the beach you will find a set of stairs which will take you back up to the cliff tops and back onto the coastal path. From there you follow the path up past the RNLI Life boat station to Trevose Head.

This is a National Trust area and the path can get pretty narrow around here so take care, the views however are out of this world. From Trevose Head you walk down to Booby’s Bay and then through to Constantine, here you can take a rest and enjoy watching the surf.

The easiest way to loop back is to take the path at the back of Booby’s which takes you up to a car park and to Mother Ivey’s Bay Holiday Park where you can pick the coastal path back up and head back down to Harlyn and then on to Trevone.

It’s a long walk but can be made shorter depending on how adventurous you are feeling and during the winter months a pair of welly boots is a must as the path will be very muddy!

Keep Walking
