Earl of East x Pivotal: A Day Trip to the South East Coast

With a shared passion for adventure, travel and creating memorable experiences, we are thrilled to announce a collaboration between Earl of East and Pivotal. This partnership pairs the innovative spirit of Pivotal car subscription with evocative on-the-go fragrances by Earl of East - your memorable Summer road trip begins now.

The Journey: About 91 miles from East London to Dungeness, including stops. Around 3 hours leisurely driving time including stops.

9am - Set off from London

Starting the journey at our East London headquarters, the car was loaded with supplies for one of our amazing stockists we planned to stop by enroute. With a trip to the South East Coast imminent, it was a unanimous decision to choose a Viagem Air Freshener.

Portuguese for ‘trip,’ Viagem scented the car with sweet coconut, green oregano and fig leaf bringing a sense of adventure right from the start. Next, a carefully curated playlist set the tone for our road trip. With the stereo on, the boot loaded and coffees in hand, we set off.

10:30am - Arriving at Scotney Castle

Scotney Castle was our first pit stop and it was the perfect spot to stretch our legs - all four of Piper’s included! Just an hour and a half from London, near Tunbridge Wells, this National Trust site offers over 700 acres of incredible landscape to explore.

We wandered through the walled kitchen gardens, woodlands and manicured landscape. The gardens were in full bloom during our visit, creating a vibrant tapestry of colours and inspiring scents.

1pm - Lunch with a view at Tillingham

As lunchtime approached, the next stop was the beautiful Tillingham Wines, our must-visit if you’re in the area. Founded in 2017, Tillingham has quickly become renowned for its natural wines, crafted using organic farming practices.

The vineyard also hosts a restaurant, bar, overnight accommodation, and a pizza barn for laid-back dining. Our pizzas were delicious, and the views over the rolling vineyards provided the perfect backdrop for a leisurely lunch.

3pm - Explore the Charming Streets of Rye

A short drive through tree-lined roads and ancient woodlands brought us to Rye, where we delivered stock to our friend Alexa at the effortlessly curated Rae Lifestyle Store. We had a lovely catch-up over coffee before venturing out to explore the charming cobbled streets of Rye.

Once a medieval citadel fortified against invaders and the sea, Rye now gracefully unveils its rich history. Today, it boasts a diverse array of unique shops, cosy pubs, modern boutique hotels and restaurants.

5pm - Early evening in Dungeness

The final stop led us to see the sea at the vast shingle expanse of Dungeness. This protected nature reserve is a truly unique landscape, set back from the water and dotted with wild flora and fauna.

Idyllic and reflective, Dungeness offers a sense of tranquillity that is hard to find in the confines of the city. We shared a quintessentially British seaside meal - fish and chips - and enjoyed a relaxing end to a wonderful day. After soaking in the serene atmosphere of Dungeness, we prepared for the easy drive back to London, reflecting on a day filled with exploration, and inspiring scenery.
